Preventive Maintenance

It starts with something small: a bearing showing early signs of wear. During planned preventive maintenance, an experienced technician might detect abnormal vibration, temperature, noise, or lubrication conditions. The bearing can then be inspected and replaced during scheduled downtime, with labor and parts planned in advance. But what happens when that inspection is skipped?

A mechanical press can pass a routine inspection and still contain hidden safety risks that put employees, equipment, and production at risk. The most dangerous failures are often the ones you can't see.

Reactive maintenance is expensive. Beyond the immediate repair costs, unexpected breakdowns lead to lost production, missed deliveries, overtime labor, damaged tooling, and increased safety risks. In many cases, the true cost of a failure is several times greater than the repair itself.

As Baby Boomer retirements accelerate, manufacturers are losing veteran press technicians, millwrights, and maintenance leaders faster than they can replace them. Unfortunately, much of what keeps large mechanical presses running safely and efficiently was never written down.
